“Do you love yourself?”
Gulp. It was a question that I never expected to hear in a Sunday morning church service. BUT, for some reason, it RATTLED me. At that moment, I couldn't honestly say “YES!” "You see," the pastor continued. "We can be reconciled to God in so many areas of our life, but if we don't love ourselves, then we don’t truly KNOW who we are in Him.”
I wiggled in my seat. I felt uncomfortable. In fact, if I’m being real, I felt a little embarrassed. It’s hard to admit that you don’t love yourself. But now, I couldn’t ignore it. The reality of my brokenness was staring me right in the face.
The Pastor continued. “If you need prayer to be reconciled to God when it comes to how you feel about yourself, or if you don’t know if you really LIKE yourself, I want to invite you to come forward for prayer.”
Big Gulp. I sat there fidgeting. My heart felt like it was beating out of my chest. I KNEW what I had to do. And before my mind could even object, there I was, standing at the front of the sanctuary.
Nervously, I waited for an available prayer minister, feeling like every eye was on me. BUT, suddenly, I felt it. A gentle hand on my right shoulder. Hi, I’m Mike,” he said. “And I’m Lisa,” his wife chimed in. Mike went on, “I saw you this morning and I felt that the Lord wanted me to tell you some things. He wants you to know that He loves you SO much. And you may feel like you don’t measure up, but that is NOT how He sees you.” He continued with a word from the Lord that just broke open the floodgates of my heart…AND my tear ducts!
That morning, I was reminded that the God who made the Universe sees ME. He loves ME. He is a God who goes out of His way to tell two strangers what He thinks of ME, and to pray for ME, just so I can truly know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, how much He loves ME. He is a God that goes out of His way to tell me that I AM ENOUGH. PLUS, He sent His Son to die for ME. DUH!! That is how deeply He cares for ME. And that is how deeply He cares for every single one of His children. That’s YOU!
Ever since that life-changing Sunday morning, I have been on a journey with God to learn WHO I AM in Him and HOW TO WALK in my identity.
THIS is the passion behind Abounding in Him apparel. Our heart's desire is that every believer would truly KNOW their identity as sons and daughters of the Most High God and walk in the fullness of Christ.
Galatians 4:7 “Now we’re no longer living like slaves under the law, but we enjoy being God’s very own sons and daughters! And because we’re his, we can access everything our Father has- for we are heirs of God through Jesus, the Messiah!”
